Tips for a Smooth Spring Start-Up

Posted by

  • Check the condition of your tires for hardness, flat spots, punctures, cuts and cracks.
  • Check your tire pressure and make sure it’s at the recommended setting. Tires can lose air pressure with time, especially in cold weather.
  • Look at your brake pads and confirm that they are not worn.
  • Make sure your gas is in good condition - today's gasoline only has a lifespan of 3 months. To avoid problems with running, use a fuel additive such as StarTron or Helix 5-in-1 before starting the bike and fill up with fresh gas as soon as possible.
  • Change your oil and filter if you didn’t do it in the fall.
  • Examine your battery and make sure it is fully charged - a battery tender is a great way to maintain your battery's charge. Check the terminals and leads to make sure they’re secure and free of corrosion.
  • Check for any fluid leaks before and after you’ve started it for the 1st time. Do a full circle check, inspecting hoses, cables and fluid levels and ensuring all the lights and turn indicators are working.
